A Bridal Shower for Whitney

I have been a busy girl planning this bridal shower for my girlfriend Whitney. Saturday was the big day and it turned out so great!  I wanted to do something soft and girly so I went with shades of lavender and pinks.

We got the flowers at Costco and I arranged them in a bunch of miss matched jars and vases. I used raw cut burlap as a table runner and mason jars for the iced tea. I love how organic it all felt.

Of coarse the go-to poms that spruce up any party. I found these little doilies at Smart and Final and not only used them on the table, but I painted a last minute banner too.
I found white frames in the dollar section and hot glued clear glass pebbles around it just for some extra umph and filled them with the couples engagement photos. And how cute are the straws! Gotta love Etsy! We used plastic wear to keep clean up nice and easy so I made napkin rings with the brides initials for added detail.
I found Amy Butler fabric keychains/bottle openers as party favors. I put them in little linen bags and stamped the outside with a peony flower stamp. Simple and cute.
I was planning on displaying the menu on this chalkboard, but it was little small but "Lets Eat" fit just right, LOL. I found the chalkboard at Joanns, painted it white and made some fabric flowers to add.

Some of the party guests

We skipped games, but  I made little cards that read "Love Note" and everyone wrote a little somethin' somethin' for the new bride. And what kind of party would it be without dessert?? Mini chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and vanilla with strawberry frosting. I will post the recipe soon because it was to die!

It was such a lovely afternoon. The weather was perfect and everyone had such a great time. Let the wedding festivities begin !

Oh Daddy

Gavin threw his Daddy's shoes in the trash so that he would stay home from work. Both kids cried when he got in his car and drove away. I wanted to do the same thing.

We have a good Daddy. The best Daddy actually. I am one lucky girl  to have him, and I am grateful every single day.

Tonight is Daddy night, cause Mama is having girls dinner with my favorite ladies.
Can't wait!

Thrift Store Finds

It's no secret that I love going to the Goodwill more than I like going to Nordstroms. I love searching every aisle for hidden treasures, something to redo, or my next victim to a can of spray paint. Somedays are better than others, but this month I have been
 lucky
 lucky
 lucky

Here's what I scored

I love this little flower bowl. Reminds me of something from Anthropologie. Super feminine. THis little gem might be making an appearance at an upcoming party I'm throwing :)
The bowl on the right is a dream. I am obsessed with Milk Glass and this is kind of similar looking.
Cute little vase, perfect for a couple bright stems. And this picture frame is to die. I love the texture of it.

And who doesn't love something bright and cheery for the kitchen? Right now this looker is full of bananas on my counter.

And this pillow case and matching flat sheet I scored for $3.00 . I love geometric patterns. It only came with one pillow case so I think I'm going to use the flat sheet fabric to make one for Gavins bed too

I scored this little love;y at a garage sale for $2.00. It was painted a dingy light pink with a million chips and drip marks. SO, I put some elbow grease into in and sanded it down, sprayed it with a couple coats of yellow spray paint, and BAM. A charming shelf for the babes room. I'm thinking the back needs to be lined with some cute paper or something. And don't mind the random trinkets, the kids rearrange it daily :)

And finally, my favorite find so far. I mean could you just die! I scored it at a Goodwill up North while we were visiting for $19.00!!! It is in perfect condition and I didn't even need to change the paint color. i am so obsessed with this I can't even explain. The only negative thing is that this beast is HEAVY. I mean like one too many trips to the buffet for this mirror. But I don't care how big the holes, or how many screws, she will be hung in my living room.

So a couple trips and about $40.00 later, I have some pretty cool new things for my house. I love that my house doesn't look like I bought everything out of a catalog. I love how the mix of new old give it so much more character.
Call me an old lady I don't care, I love me some thrift stores and garage sales!

I have one last AMAZING find that my mom found on the side of the road for FREE but its not ready for its reveal yet so stay tuned cause its a goody:)

GEt out there and treasure hunt friends! Just don't go to the ones by me K, cause I'll fight you for it :)

Life's Not So Great Moments

Saturday morning we packed a lunch, some sand toys, a big blankie and ourselves and headed to the park for a play date with friends. It had been a gorgeous week weather wise, but that day it was cold and windy. I should have taken the hint from Mother Nature and just stayed home.
Anyways, we found a patch of grass to post up for the afternoon and the kids hit the playground. Sara and I chatted about whatever, pushed Sofia on the swing, and watched Danni and Gavin play with two new friends. Now these boys were probably seven, so we called our babes over to give them the "if those boys aren't nice boys, you do not have to play with them speech".  I reminded Gavin to use his manners and introduce himself to knew kids and play like a gentlemen. It wasn't long before I noticed that these boys did not receive the same speech from their mama. I sat back and watched them play, trying not to hover, but still fully aware of what was going on. At one point Danni had skipped away and Gavin was left with the two big boys by himself at the top of the play set. It was as if a button was pushed in my brain, my Mommy alarm was going off and I needed to listen. So I got up and made my way around the play set where the big boys I guess couldn't see me. I heard them mumbling something low, and I walked up and asked what was going on. Gavin looked at me with the most confused face. I started to panic.
"What is going on ? " I demanded
" Umm.... he said a bad word" said one of the boys, pointing to Gavin.
"Really, what word is that? He has never heard a bad word" I could feel my head getting hot and my hands start to tremble. The boys looked like they had seen a ghost.
"He said the F word" the boy said.
"He said what? He has never heard that word in his life. We DO NOT use that language and you are not allowed to play with our kids anymore if you choose to!" By now I am in full mom attack mode.
I had lost any cool I thought I once had. The boys bolted off the play set and I told Gavin to go sit on our blanket and wait for me. Of coarse, because I was acting like a crazy person, he started to cry. I asked him what had happened and he couldn't catch his breath. I reassured him that he wasn't in trouble, but he needed to tell me what happened.
And then it happened. The single most upsetting thing that has happened to me as a parent so far. He said that he was pretending he was a soldier and the boys told him if he didn't stop they were going to "F him up", but they used the real word. And then they told him to say it back in order to pass by.

There I was, holding my three year old baby, listening to that foul word coming out of his mouth, and all I could do was cry.
I felt violated.
These little boys and their vulgar mouths had invaded our lives. My sweet son's innocence had been compromised  and poisoned  with filth and ugliness. Where were their parents. Why did they think that language like that was acceptable and why were they saying it to a three year old?
Every day I wake up and try to make the world safe for my children. I try and teach them what is right and what is wrong. I teach them to live a life of respect and love. This may all sound over dramatic, but in that instance, I felt for the first time that no matter how hard I try, sometimes the world is ugly and mean, and no matter how hard I try, sometimes I won't be able to protect them from it. And that feeling is devastating.
 my heart was broken.

The boys had disappeared, and all I wanted was to get my babies home and away. I packed everything up faster than humanly possible and cried the whole way home. For the rest day my heart was heavy. That night I when I went to bed, Steve asked if I was ok, and I just sobbed. I was so upset about this. I was angry at those boys parents for not teaching their children better. I was angry that they had taken my son's pure innocent world and muddied up with words of hate. I felt helpless. Something happened to my child that I had no control over, and it felt unbelievably devastating.

The only peace I have is that I know we have raised good, smart, compassionate children with good hearts. But I still can't shake this feeling I have. The world has many faces. Some beautiful, and some nasty and cruel. It is my job to make sure my babes are prepared to face all of them. It is my job to teach them to make good decisions. It is my job to love them and make them feel safe.  I may not have been able to stop what happened that day, and I know that there will many more things in their lifetime that I won't be able to control, but I wake up everyday and try with every ounce of my being to protect them and teach them to be good people and make good decisions.

Either that or I will hide in their back packs until they're thirty and kick anyones butt that messes with my kids.

I love you to your bones my sweet babes.

Go Shorty Its Your Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the love of my life.
31 never looked so good
I love you for so many reason, in so many ways, but mostly because you make a mean chocolate banana shake, you rub my head at night even when your tired, you laugh at your own jokes when no one else does, and you love our babes above anything else. You make  my days better and you're one bomb diggity Daddy. We are so proud to have you all to ourselves.
I love You to your bones babe
